Practical Paideia
Making Pedagogy Palpable
…”it is no easy task to create a [cultural leader], even though his education be carried out under the most favorable circumstances…Therefore the rules which we lay down must be of the best.” – Quintilian
So often, classical books, websites, and conferences tend to focus on the big picture of classical education. While this is a vital component, the more practical “how to” of it all seems to be missing. This website is devoted to moving from the 10,000 foot view to the day to day application. What does teaching classically look like in the classroom? You will find examples from teachers who have done it well and want to share how it worked. We hope you leave feeling encouraged and inspired. Paideia is roughly translated ‘the bringing up of a child’, everything we do in our classrooms and throughout our hallways is done with the ultimate purpose of bringing up our students ‘in the way they should go’. This website’s mission is to provide you with practical tips and idea to help you accomplish that goal.
